Privacy Policy

How we handle your personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

1. Our commitment

Gallipoli Funeral Fund Limited ("GFF", "we", "us") respects your privacy. We are bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy explains how we collect, use, hold, disclose and protect your personal information, and how you can access or correct it.

2. The information we collect

To provide our Funeral Expense Facility and meet our legal obligations, we may collect:

  • Identity and contact details (name, date of birth, address, phone, email).
  • Membership details (facility type, tier, nominated beneficiaries and their details).
  • Financial information needed to process payments (bank or card details, payment history).
  • Sensitive information, including health information you provide when declaring whether you have a terminal illness, and information about your religious affiliation relevant to our purpose. We collect sensitive information only with your consent and where reasonably necessary.

3. How we collect it

We usually collect personal information directly from you, through our application form, website, by phone, in person, or through one of our authorised community partners acting as a referrer. Where lawful and practicable, you may deal with us anonymously, although we may be unable to provide the facility without the information we request.

4. Why we collect and use it

We use your personal information to:

  • Assess and process your application and set up your membership.
  • Administer your facility, including billing, premiums and entry fees.
  • Assess and pay benefit claims to your nominated beneficiary.
  • Communicate with you and provide member services.
  • Meet our obligations under the Corporations Act, our AFSL conditions, the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act, taxation law and other applicable laws.

5. When we disclose it

We may disclose your information to:

  • Service providers who help us operate, such as our accounting system (for invoicing), payment processors, IT and database providers, and professional advisers (including actuaries and auditors), under confidentiality arrangements.
  • Your nominated beneficiary or legal representative when administering a claim.
  • Regulators and authorities where required or authorised by law (for example ASIC, the ATO, or AFCA).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing without your consent.

6. Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers may store data on secure servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles your information consistently with the APPs.

7. How we store and protect it

We hold information in secure electronic and physical systems and take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We retain information only for as long as required for our purposes or by law, after which it is securely destroyed or de-identified.

8. Accessing and correcting your information

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable period and will tell you if there is any reason we cannot give access.

9. Privacy complaints

If you believe we have breached the APPs, please contact our Privacy Officer at info@gallipolifuneralfund.org.au or 0487 060 687. We will acknowledge and investigate your complaint. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this website. Material changes will be communicated to members where appropriate.
